Stony lake cottage

extensive interior updates to lakefront cottage & boathouse

This large chalet style lake front cottage and boat house is located near Lakefield Ontario and was approximately 25 years old when our young family clients purchased it.  The interior was dated with brass fixtures an excess of golden orange wood including cabinetry, trim and ceilings, and wall to wall broadloom.  The loft boathouse living space was completely finished in knotty pine.  The property had been well maintained and was extremely good quality, all cabinetry custom built.  Our clients request was to give it a complete new look while maintaining all existing cabinetry, tile work and built-in showers/tubs - making changes only to finishes and fittings.  It was a priority for the work to be completed in a short time frame and that all new materials and fittings be readily available from local sources.  Our solution in the main cottage included reconfiguring the kitchen layout, utilizing the existing cabinetry, and adding a new pro style range and new lighting.  Each bathroom was updated by, replacing counters, sinks, faucets, toilets and hardware, and adding new lighting.  Throughout the cottage received new wood flooring, new door hardware, and all new light fixtures.   Walls were brightened with a coat of White Dove paint creating crisp and fresh contrast with the existing wood ceilings and trim work.  The boathouse interior was transformed with white paint, with red painted bathroom vanity, leaving only the existing floors and counters in knotty pine.  In addition to updating the interior we were hired to create furniture plans and concepts for the main areas and bedrooms.  Before photos and plans can be seen in the blog archives.
